Month eleven

June 2011 kids
I've written Cora Jane's monthly updates ten other times (one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, and ten plus her birth story) and I still struggle with the introduction every single time. How many ways can I say the thing that bothers me most?

My baby girl is almost a year old.

I can't believe the incredible gift that I was given (on my birthday!). I love my boys. I do. I really, really do. I love those boys more than I can even explain. Yet when I look at her, my girl, I can't help but think that I've been given more than I could ever ask for. More than I could ever imagine.

My life, our life, is so very blessed.

Cora continues to be quite the handful right now. She is a crawling and crazy machine that puts everything into her mouth. Everything, that is, except actual food. Food is fun only for playing, not eating. (Before one, just for fun!) The things she will eat: crackers, pasta, peas, applesauce packets, cantaloupe, and cheerios. Things that she is given on a regular basis that she will not eat: spinach, strawberries, oranges, banannas, rice, pork, and chicken. Things that I pull from her mouth on a regular basis: Legos, mulch, pennies, and clumps of dirt.

The bad (good?) news is that I have like ZERO patience for feeding her food. Thank goodness Matt is here for all the dirty work. I am much too lazy to care because I am postive she ain't gonna starve any time soon. She is roughly weighing in around 19 lbs and has plenty of pudge. She is wearing some 9 month clothing, mostly 12 month, and a few 18 month stuff thrown in for good measure.

As for breastfeeding, Cora nurses throughout the day and most of the night. Let's not talk about sleeping though. Cool? And it also goes without saying that we are not weaning any time in the near future. When I say "near," I mean "in the next year." My goal is two years. We'll see what happens.

Major milestones for the month: waving bye bye, first official words (MaMa and DaDa), learning to slide down the stairs, hiding behind the shower curtain, and playing peek-a-boo. She also loves to crawl away and giggle after her diaper is taken off. She still LOVES her brothers, particularly Simon and Simon's room. She will drive cars across the floor and give her baby doll a pacifer. If you give her a bow, she'll try and put it on her head. Her receptive language is coming along too. She answers "do you want milk?" by crawling to my lap and "where is Daddy?" by scanning the room for him.

She is also working on her top teeth and I can feel the ridges along her gum line. As of now, she just has the bottom two.

I was pretty confident that Cora would walk before her first birthday but now I am not so sure. She will walk all the way across the driveway, pending she can hold onto your finger. If you pull your finger away, she promptly sits down. She can also stand unassisted and push her walker toy. She doesn't really like to try though, instead insisting on the security of our fingers.

I wouldn't mind if she did learn to walk soon, simply because it makes going outside easier and less painful for her knees.

So here we are- about three weeks away from her first birthday. Expect a few more posts as I look back at the past year and a few birthday photo shoot posts too. I am waiting on a new shipment of bows and Matt just spray painted a bright pink wooden chair for me.

If I try and focus on the future, I am less sad about the past.

I love you Cora Bean.
